Waves and Deduction
Placement, questioning, reflection and colour mixing.
Place the gemstones
Use the revised base set: one red, one yellow, one blue and two white pieces. Place grid-side up, with corners and internal lines aligned to the board. Pieces must stay inside the grid. Their edges may not touch, although corners may meet. No piece may be completely hidden behind the others when viewed from the edge.

- Perimeter labels — choose an entry or report an exit.
- Grid — align pieces to its lines and stay inside it.
- Red gemstone — an example of a piece that redirects and colours a wave.
With two players each person prepares a mine. With three to five, only the quiz master prepares the shared mine; that person does not compete.
Ask a question
Choose either question on your turn:
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Send a wave from one perimeter label, 1–18 or A–R | Its exit label and final colour |
| Ask about one coordinate, such as E4 | Nothing, or the colour of the piece occupying that position |
Your solution sheet has a 10 by 8 grid. Record the answer and pass the turn. Asking again for an already tested wave does not consume a turn.
Follow the wave
The wave enters perpendicular to the chosen boundary and follows straight horizontal or vertical lines. Trace its reflections from gemstone edges until it leaves. A perpendicular collision reverses its course; a sloped edge turns it at a right angle. Its exit can be the same label as its entrance.
The quiz master gives the result, not the intermediate route. An answer applies to the entire shared puzzle when there are several hunters.
Mix the colours
A wave starts transparent. Combine the different colours it encounters; repeated encounters with the same colour do not add anything.
| Colours encountered | Result |
|---|---|
| None | Transparent |
| Red / yellow / blue / white only | That colour |
| Red + yellow | Orange |
| Red + blue | Purple |
| Yellow + blue | Green |
| Red + yellow + blue | Black |
| Red + white | Pink |
| Yellow + white | Lemon |
| Blue + white | Sky blue |
| Orange / purple / green + white | Light orange / light purple / light green |
| Red + yellow + blue + white | Grey |
Submit a solution
Spend your turn to hand the quiz master a complete arrangement showing every gemstone’s position and orientation. Use the player-count-specific ending rules.
Optional gemstones
[Diamond] Add the transparent reflector only when using Diamond. [Blackbody] Use the absorption response from Blackbody when the black piece is present.
