Learn the game in 5 short steps. Everything links to the full rules.

Setup

Choose Jack and the Detective, place the eight characters as shown, and shuffle the two decks separately. Begin with the Witness on Visible. Jack privately draws and looks at one alibi card; conceal the colored card edges using the erratum’s box-tray arrangement. Setup.

Visibility

A character is visible on a lit street hex or beside another character. Watson can illuminate a line in front of him until an obstacle. At the end of each round Jack declares his own status; the Detective clears everyone in the opposite group. Witness call.

Character Activations

Four characters act each round. The first player uses one, the other uses two, then the first player uses the fourth. The Detective starts odd rounds; Jack starts even rounds. Check each card’s timing symbol before moving or using its power. Character selection.

Escape

Jack can try to exit only during the round after an Invisible witness call. Use an open exit with no police cordon, and spend a movement point to leave the board. Escape.

Accusations

The Detective must move an activated investigator onto Jack to accuse. If the guess is right, the Detective wins; if wrong, Jack wins. Another character power moving Jack onto an investigator does not count as an accusation. Accusations.
