The merchant contest

Hansa Teutonica box cover

Build a reputation

You are merchants competing to build offices, connect cities, improve your abilities and gather prestige. The player with the most prestige after final scoring wins.

Your main loop is to place pieces on trade routes, claim a full route, then choose a reward that improves your network or your options.

Cities and routes

Cities contain square and round offices. Lines between cities are trade routes, each with two to four connection points. Fill every point with your pieces to make the route ready for a separate claim action.

Manage your pieces

Keep two supplies

Your personal supply holds the pieces you can spend on actions. The general stock is shared. Income moves pieces from stock to your personal supply; it does not recover them from the board.

Your writing desk begins with fifteen traders and three merchants on its ability tracks. Develop an ability to free a piece into your personal supply and improve that ability.

Claim routes in order

Route claim is a separate action

After all route spaces hold only your pieces, spend one action to claim it. First score the players who control the endpoint cities. Take the marker next, then choose at most one reward: establish an office, improve an ability, or score Coellen.

Points come from more than the track

Build a connected set of offices and develop City Keys to multiply it. Bonus markers, city control and fully developed abilities add points too. Watch for a player reaching twenty, the marker supply running out, or the tenth city being completed.
