Teach the Game

Train athletes through two seasons, then test them in tournaments.

How you win

Build the most prestigious Dojo by the end of the second tournament. Training, recruiting, adventures, predictions, tournament placements and dojo development all contribute Prestige Points (PP).

The boards

Each Dojo has a board and expansion boards for its athletes and training spaces. The central Village has shared Athlete and Sensei activities, training equipment, adventure and special move displays, and the tournament area. Athlete cards track that athlete’s Ki, experience disciplines and special abilities.

A round

The game has two seasons, each with three Training Rounds followed by a tournament. In a Training Round, alternate placing one available Sensei or Athlete on a legal activity space and resolving it. When all pieces are used, return them, refresh the shared displays and advance the round marker.

How the game ends

After the second tournament, add earned PP to PP on training equipment, athletes’ cards, Special Moves and Dojo expansions. Most PP wins. Ties break by tournaments won, then the highest Dan among a player’s athletes.

Ways to score

Athletes can earn PP from Village activities, adventures, their card abilities and tournament results. Sensei actions can develop the Dojo and athletes; predictions reward correct tournament forecasts. Some equipment and special moves contribute PP at game end.

What each resource is for

Ki belongs to an individual Athlete and pays for its training or special actions. Experience levels in the four disciplines determine Dan and the dice used in combat. Wounds reduce an athlete’s combat capacity; PP is the victory measure.

Teaching tips

Teach the Training Round placement rules first, especially which spaces accept the Sensei or athletes. Then demonstrate one athlete action that improves combat and one that earns PP. Explain tournament pairings and predictions before resolving the first fight.
