Compete for the King's court

You are a perfumer building original fragrances for Versailles. After four weeks, the player with most prestige wins; the tie-breakers are Dame favours, Experience, Letter of Reference, then completed perfumes. See game-end scoring.

2–4 players · 90–120 minutes. The rulebook lists no official solo mode. Begin with the setup checklist.

Read the studio and shared board

Your personal board tracks your Sundial, production methods, scent supply, three perfume slots, Experience, Letters of Reference, City tiles and Dame favours. On the shared board, the market and Apprenticeship spaces are in Grasse; nobles and Versailles are central; cities run along the top; the Preference Matrix is beside the King and Court markers.

See Cards & Components for the pieces and the actions reference.

Use the Sundial

On your turn either move your Perfumer to an available board action and spend Action Points, or produce with your available Production Points. Spending actions reduces the time left for production and coach travel. Resetting the Sundial advances the day; complete the action first, then resolve Sunday if triggered.

You may spend one Originality token after a turn for one extra turn, but never take more than two consecutive turns. Follow turn order and time.

Turn flowers into finished perfumes

Collect flowers with your Perfumer and the shared workers. During a production turn, spend Production Points on methods to convert flowers into matching scents. Choose a Recipe at or below your Experience, pay its base scent and immediately add the required distinct complementary scents. A perfume cannot stay unfinished.

See production and travel and creating perfumes.

Present, score, and finish

At Versailles, check every scent combination against the Preference Matrix before scoring. A full intersection means that combination scores nothing. Otherwise score open cells and any matching Court, King and perfection bonuses. Dames, flipped City tiles and hidden Final Bonus tiles add other routes to points.

After the fourth week, take final turns, hold the perfume parade, and score end bonuses. Read Game End & Scoring and Teach the Game.
