The Voyages of Marco Polo: Agents of Venice

Add the Venice network, temporary agents, or both.

Short tag: [Venice]

What it adds

The expansion contains two mix-and-match modules: City of Venice and Agents of Venice. The City module adds a map with palace spaces, four extra posts per player, Venice action spaces, and three small-palace bonus tiles. The Agents module adds nine Agent tiles and an action that grants a Good plus a temporary ability. The box also contains a fifth player color; five-player games require the Venice board.

Setup changes

City of Venice: place the board beside the main board. Set up its palace bonuses and city cards as directed by the expansion rules. Each player’s first Venice post goes on the designated large Palace; later posts must connect to an existing post, paying any printed link cost. The Venice action spaces are filled according to player count.

Agents: shuffle the Agent tiles and reveal six. Leave the rest as a face-down draw pile.

New and changed rules

City of Venice: place a die in the next eligible Venice action space, observing the ascending-die restriction. Take one Trading Post from your supply and place it legally on the Venice map. A post in a small Palace grants that space’s reward now and at later round starts. A post on a large Palace unlocks its city-card action. Some palace spaces add end-game points.

Agents: use the Agent action to gain a Good and take one face-up Agent. Its ability is available during the current round. A tile marked once-per-round is set aside after use; otherwise, keep using its benefit for that round.

Five players: use the fifth player board and pieces, and include the City of Venice module as required by the rules.

Scoring changes

Venice posts count as Trading Posts for the base game’s post milestones. Score any points printed on occupied Venice spaces at the end. [Venice] Tips for the new action economy are in Tips & Strategy.
