Actions
The seven actions: play a card, standard projects, milestones, awards, blue-card actions, and turning plants and heat into terraforming.
Your turn
On your turn take 1 or 2 actions, in any combination — the same one twice is fine — or pass. Turns go round until everyone has passed.
| Action | Cost | |
|---|---|---|
| A | Play a card | The card’s cost |
| B | Use a standard project | 0–25 |
| C | Claim a milestone | 8 |
| D | Fund an award | 8, 14 or 20 |
| E | Use a blue-card action | What the card says |
| F | Convert plants into greenery | 8 |
| G | Convert heat into temperature | 8 |
Play a card
Three steps:
- Check the requirement. It must be met now; it doesn’t matter later. You must also be able to carry out the card’s effects, with three exceptions (below).
- Pay and do the effects. Pay the cost (top left), using
steel for building cards and
titanium for space cards, minus any discounts. Then do the effects in the order
you choose. - Place the card: green face up in a stack, blue with its top panel showing, red face down in your event pile (card types).
Requirements
Requirements sit next to the cost. They are minimums — “3 oceans” means at least 3 — unless the box is red and says max, which means that value or lower. Some cards need a tag or a production.
The three exceptions
You may play a card even if you can’t do all of it when the part you can’t do:
- raises a global parameter that has reached its goal — no TR for that part;
- adds resources you can’t hold — such as microbes with no microbe card;
- removes another player’s resources (red border) — optional anyway.
Everything else must be possible: production decreases, removing your own resources, placing tiles.
Paying
Use a standard project
The six standard projects on the board are open to every player, and each can be used several times per generation.
| Project | Cost | You get |
|---|---|---|
| Sell patents | Discard cards from hand | 1 |
| Power plant | 11 | +1 |
| Asteroid | 14 | Raise |
| Aquifer | 18 | Place an |
| Greenery | 23 | Place a |
| City | 25 | Place a |
Claim a milestone
If you meet a milestone, pay 8
and put your marker on it. Each milestone can be
claimed by one player only, and only 3 of the 5 can be claimed in total. Each is worth 5 VP.
| Milestone | You need |
|---|---|
| Terraformer | TR of at least 35 |
| Mayor | At least 3 city tiles |
| Gardener | At least 3 greenery tiles |
| Builder | At least 8 |
| Planner | At least 16 cards in hand when you claim it |
Fund an award
Anyone may fund an award, no requirement. The first award funded costs 8
, the
second 14, the third 20. Only 3 awards can be funded, each once.
At the end every funded award is scored, whoever funded it: 5 VP for first, 2 VP for second (no second place with two players). Ties are friendly: all tied players get the VP; if several share first, there is no second.
| Award | Most… |
|---|---|
| Landlord | Tiles in play (cities, greeneries, special tiles) |
| Banker | M€ production |
| Scientist | |
| Thermalist | |
| Miner |
Use a blue-card action
Blue cards and corporations with a red arrow have an action. Each can be used once per generation: pay what is left of the arrow, take what it points to, and put a player marker on the card. Markers come off in the production phase.
Convert plants into greenery
Spend 8
plants to place a
greenery tile next to one of your tiles
if possible. It raises oxygen 1 step and your TR with it, and you take its placement bonus.
Convert heat into temperature
Spend 8
heat to raise the
temperature 1 step and your TR with it.
Passing and stalling
If you take no action on your turn you pass and are out until the next generation. Some players take a single cheap action to wait and see what others do.
