Stock and Turn Order

Found airlines, buy shares, and use stock ownership to operate.

The first stock round

On the first turn, use the First Round Turn Order cards. In order, each player must found a different airline by buying two shares and setting that airline’s initial price at $3, $4, $5, $6, or $7 per share. A player must be able to afford the chosen price. Then each player gets two more buys, one share per buy, in the same order. The later buys must be in two different airlines, and you cannot buy more of the airline you founded. Buy if you can afford a legal share; you may skip only when you cannot.

Normal stock rounds

From the second turn onward, start with the First Player and go clockwise. On each opportunity, either buy one available share at its current market price or pass. Once you pass, you are finished buying for that stock round. A newly founded airline starts at a price you choose from $3–$7 and you must buy at least one share at that price. The first ordinary purchase of the round flips its market marker to Purchased; at round end, each airline with a purchase moves its market marker forward once.

There is no direct sale. You may hold at most ten shares total, no more than four of one airline (three in a 2-player game), and may not hold every share currently available for one airline. If at the ten-share limit, trade one held share for a different airline’s share from the pool, applying the difference in current values toward the purchase. You cannot receive cash from the trade.

Stock market

An airline’s market marker determines its current share price and the cost of future purchases. When an action raises or lowers the marker, all shares of that airline immediately have the new value. If an airline ends a turn in the marked $1 bankruptcy space, remove it, all its shares, Gates, and Hubs from the game; no one is paid. Slide other Gates in those cities left and recalculate affected incomes.

Using shares to operate

During operations, spend one share token from your player board to take an action for that airline. Any player who owns at least one share can act for it; the largest shareholder does not control it exclusively. Used shares stay on the Used spaces until the end of the turn, then return to the available area of the board.

See Airline Operations for the action menu and company rules.
