Add a fifth librarian, special assistants and optional auctions for assistants and artifacts.

What it adds

Expanded Archives is an expansion for the revised Ex Libris edition. It adds fifth-player pieces, replacement scoring references and Diviner’s Hut, 15 Special Assistants, four location tiles, and the Job Faire and Artifactorium modules. Use one or both modules. The expansion includes reference cards and the updated solo rules.

Fifth player

For five players, add the fifth library and assistants, use the expansion’s scoring reference tiles, and apply its five-player scoring adjustments. The Banned Books scoring tile is not used for five players; see the revised expansion scoring reference.

Job Faire and Artifactorium

[Archives] The Job Faire lets assistants bid for Special Assistants. Only the highest available bid remains when a tile’s stated capacity is exceeded; displaced assistants return to their owners to place again. The Artifactorium is another auction location; its winner takes an Artifact and may shelve it or keep it for its power and end-game points. Follow each tile’s preparation and card-area limit.

Special Assistants

[Archives] Special Assistants mostly use the normal placement rules, with powers that may trigger on placement, during a location effect, or in scoring. When multiple abilities conflict, the expansion gives priority to the assistant that has been at the location longer. Check each card’s timing and solo icon before play.

Setup and scoring changes

[Archives] For the Job Faire, prepare the displayed Special Assistant cards; the number depends on player count. For Artifactorium, prepare Artifact cards beside its tile. When the module is used, artifacts are added to bookshelves without changing alphabet order or category totals, except they count for shelf stability. Use the expansion’s final round and scoring changes when applicable.
